Bocce Report March 2018

Posted on Tuesday, 27 March 2018

The new year is well underway and our members are back on the courts enjoying their social game of bocce. We meet every Wednesday morning from 9 am till 12 noon and play two games. After the first game we stop for a morning cuppa and a chat. Wednesday is the perfect day for new members to come and join us to learn to play bocce.

Our members also play bocce socially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1pm till 4.30 pm. This provides another opportunity for new members to come and try bocce – we would love to have you join us.
For any enquiries about bocce please contact –

Our AGM was held in early February and the new committee for 2018 is:

  • Barbara Jones – Vice President/Games Captain
  • Maria Parlato – Secretary
  • Kerrie Reitano – Treasurer
  • Mina Scodellaro – Committee member
  • Elena Bunin – Committee member

The competition calendar has already begun for Redlands bocce players. Every “first” Saturday of the month we hold a three game competition which starts at 1pm. We play in teams of two or three and play three games with a small prize for winners, finishing the afternoon with a light snack and drink. This competition is very popular with our members and is always well attended.

Throughout the year we also host sponsored interclub games and visit other clubs for competition.

The Australian Junior Bocce Championships this year will be held in Victoria in April. Carlo Bunin who is one of our junior players will be competing at those championships. He is an excellent player and we wish him “All the Best” for the games.

Presently we are preparing to host the Australian Men’s & Women’s Bocce Championships to be held at our bocce courts from 7-11 June 2018. This is a major event on the bocce calendar where the top players from each State come to compete. The games start on Friday, 8 June 2018 at 9am and continue over four days. Players compete in singles, doubles, triples and the specialised throwing games of throw/bowl, precision and the rapid throw. Members of the public are welcome to come and watch the games.

The official Opening of the Championships will take place on Friday at 7.15pm at the bocce courts which are situated behind the Redlands Sporting Club in Anson Road, Wellington Point Qld. We invite the public to join us for the official opening and watch the March On of all the state competitors who will be piped in by the Redlands Sporting Club Pipe Band.
