Golf Report June 2018

Posted on Tuesday, 3 July 2018

All games over the past few months have seen a steady attendance by club members. We have also seen the arrival of a few new members which has been quite pleasing for the committee.
Our first bus trip of the year to Ocean Shores in April turned out to be a disappointment. After leaving the club in the early hours of the morning under clear skies we were met with steady rain on arrival. This later turned in to torrential rain and with the course completely waterlogged we were forced to call off the game after only six holes.
The weather also had an effect on our Match Play Trophy schedule, but this is now back on track with qualifying, and first and second rounds being completed at Redland Bay and Carbrook in April and May. The semi-finals will be played at Virginia on 24 June, with Dave Jackson playing Billy McDermott and John Monro playing Tony McKinless. Our second Trophy event of the year, a 2 Man Ambrose, was played at Riverlakes on 10 June. Eugene Vanhorssen and Ladislo Rodrigo were very narrow winners with 59.25 from Russell Edwards and Eddie Wilkins with 59.5
The next few months will be a fairly busy time for club members with the Winter Cup being played at Palm Meadows on 8 July, followed by the Match Play final on 5 August and our second bus trip for the year to Murwillumbah on 19 August.
We are now entering the cooler month of the year, but do not let this deter you if you are looking to join the club for a round of golf.
