Allstars have continued their incredible year with a jump in membership from 150 playing members of 17 teams in 2016 to 175 players in 19 teams in the 2017 season. It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm of our younger players and I feel privileged to be able to foster and encourage their love of netball and our club. The growth in membership creates the need for more Coaches, Managers and helpers. We were privileged to have an abundance of wonderful parents and friends volunteer to coach and support our teams.
Our dedicated Coaches from previous years were keen to ‘upskill’ and undertake the Development Coaching Course to advance their accreditation and knowledge of the game. Special mention also goes to all of our ongoing Coaches and Managers that have given an enormous amount of time, energy and support to our players and their families throughout the year. All of your commitment to the girls has made their experience in the sport and in our Allstars community a smooth and enjoyable one.
Our facilities were given a facelift with the renovation of the goal posts (completed by Alexandra Hills Men’s Shed), signage and fitout of our clubhouse to complete the amenities building. Councillor Wendy Boglary supported us by providing a grant to finish the works.
We have worked tirelessly to gain access to grants and financial funding from Community and Government organisations to develop our players, volunteers, programs and facilities.
We were successful on many levels and now have a new and exciting direction for our club and its future. In August we constructed a fence through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to protect our players, their siblings and our equipment from the aligned pond and have plans and agreements in place to construct grass courts at our facility in which resurfacing has now begun with hopes the courts will be completed early in the New Year. Thanks to our fundraising efforts and the grants secured, our programs and facilities will be receiving a boost which will help in the development of our players’ skills and club netball experience.
Allstars had a great result at the RNA junior competition with 8 out of our 11 competitive teams making it to the finals. 3 of which were successful in making it to the grand finals with Allstars 4 and Allstars 7 winning their final and Allstars 2 just missing the win. Congratulations goes to their coaches, Lisa, Evette and Danielle, and the teams, on their splendid display of skill and sportsmanship throughout their games. Our Presentation Day in September saw Volunteers of Year awarded to Michael Hogarth (pictured) and Marie Jackson (absent) for their dedication to coaching, Chelsea Kelly was awarded Senior Player of the Year and Emily Ingham awarded Junior Player of the Year.
We had several players that were successful in their selection to represent Redlands Netball Association for 2017. These ladies participated in several regional carnivals and at the State Age Carnival, Qld Cup and Premier League throughout the season showing great commitment and dedication to the game and our association. We have also had quite a few of our players interested in umpiring this year that have entered into the courses required for accreditation. Thank you to you all that have undertaken these courses and congratulations to all of you that have been successful.
Our AGM was hosted on October 22 and we are happy to report all Committee members have remained in the same roles. Into the New Year, our Club sign-on Day is scheduled for Sunday January 21, with the sign-on at Redlands Netball Association scheduled for the following Saturday, 3 February. Through the Department of National Parks, Racing, Sport and Recreation we were funded over $4 000 for fitness equipment that will be used in a senior fitness program on our newly developed grass courts starting in March 2017.
This year our club has had many occasions that have required volunteers to help out with the running of the club and RNA duties. I am very happy to say that we have a great amount of generous members and their families that were willing to get in and help when needed. Thank you to all of our Executive, Committee members, Coaches, Managers, Scorers, Time keepers, RNA duty helpers and parents for your support and effort. A HUGE Thank you to Matt Standing, Bianca Standing, Glenda Kelly and Tracy Munro for your support in your roles in the Executive Committee of Allstars and your endless help throughout the year. With all the hard work we have done this year, we have laid the foundations for a bigger and better year at Allstars Netball Club in 2018.
Look forward to seeing you at the courts,
Paula Ogilvie
