Posted on Tuesday, 29 September 2015

The Redlands Swim Club trains and competes all year round with the winter months bringing dedication to a whole new level especially those 5am starts. The club competed in four lead up meets to give all swimmers a chance to qualify for the Brisbane and State Short Course Championships.

Redlands had 18 swimmers competing at the Brisbane Short Course Championships during the first weekend of August. All our swimmers swum well competing in 100 individual events of which they swam 67 personal best times. Six of our swimmers won 12 medals between them.  Samuel Speedie (13 years) won a Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze; Imogen Dunstan (8 years) won a Gold; Jody-Joy Davie (16 years) won a Silver and a Bronze; Jessica Black (13 years) won a Silver; Dominic Dunstan (12 years) won a Bronze and Emily Cobb (11 years) won a Bronze.

From the Brisbane Championships Samuel Speedie was selected to captain the Brisbane Team in the Patrons Shield which is a competition for 9-13 year olds competing from 4 regions -Brisbane, Wide Bay, Gold Coast and Darling Downs.  Brisbane was successful in winning the Patron’s Shield.

We had 16 swimmers compete at the State Short Course Championships in the last weekend of August.  Again our swimmers swam exceptionally well considering the flu had disrupted training for a large number of the swimmers. They still managed 38 personal best times in the 74 events they competed in. Our swimmers had 28 top ten placings and picked up a bronze medal.

One of our younger swimmers, Callum Brennan, competed in the Queensland Surf Life Saving Pool Rescue Championships in early August where he was named Champion 11 year boy.

All our swimmers will now focus on preparing for the Open Water and Long Course Championships over the coming months.

We have had a number of swimmers selected in the 2015/16 Queensland Talent identification and Development Squads.

  • Bronze Squad – Jessica Black, Jody-Joy Davie & Samuel Speedie.
  • Bronze OW Squad – Kristen Wallace & Veronica Pangrazio.
  • Junior Development Squad – Jemma Nyland
  • Junior Development SWD Squad – Russell Booysen
