Bowls Club Report January 2016

Wellington Point Bowls Club continues to be one of the best venues for lawn bowls in the Redlands. Our Club has growing membership and we have arguably the best greens in Brisbane.   Our members, both men & ladies, continue to shine in District competitions. The men again featured in the 1st Division Pennants final but missed out to a star studded team from Wynnum/Manly. The men’s Division 6 team on the other hand won the Pennant flag for the second time in three years while the ladies Pennant teams performed well but failed to make any finals this year.
The team of Ree Patterson & Noela Kopelke won the District Champion of Champion Pairs making it also three years in a row that they have won this competition. Continuing on the winning streak, the ladies also won the District 4’s (Jo Mahony, Lesley Norris, Barbara Luxton, Elaine Carroll), District Novice Pairs (Anne Diduk, Leanne Grieve).   Our men also competed well in District Championships, with Toni Donda winning the District Singles and Gary Bishop being part of the District Pairs team. Warren Chambers & Don Fowler won the over 60’s Pairs.
Our Greenkeeper, Ian Boge, continues to provide us with the best two lawn bowls greens in Queensland.  All members of Wellington Point recognise that we are indeed lucky to have him doing such a fine job and keeping our greens the envy of many who wish they could play on quality grass greens like Wellington Point.  The numbers who used our greens in 2015 continues to be high and, as always, the support of the Redland Sporting Club, Rick Veale and his management team as well as the staff, is invaluable.
Thanks go to those dedicated volunteers without whom we would not have the ability to run the Club for our members. Wellington Point Bowls Club will continue our support to charities such as Breast & Prostate Cancer and the Salvation Army and Lions Club.
