Redlands Cricket groundsman John McFarlane holding the trophy’s that he received at the Queensland Grade Cricket Presentation Awards night.

Redlands Cricket is very proud of the achievements of our groundsman, John McFarlane. John was recently rewarded for his commitment and dedication to his work by taking out two awards at this year’s Queensland Grade Cricket Presentation of Awards night.  He was awarded the Groundsman of the Year award for the third year in a row, and the STA First Grade Wicket and Ground award.  Many hours of preparation is spent on the wickets and grounds and John deserves the recognition that he has received as our grounds and facilities are regarded as one of the best in the Premier Grade competition.
At our own end of season Presentation Night held at the Redlands Sporting Club 142 people enjoyed a great evening. It was encouraging to have David Peever, a former East’s player and the incoming chairman of Cricket Australia, as the guest speaker.
Some of the Major award winners were:

  • Laim Hope Shackley    MVP/Best and Fairest for 2014/15.
  • Darren Wallis        Club Person of the year.
  • Greg Moller    1st Grade Batting Average plus the Don Seccombe Award for most runs this season
  • Jon Stimpson        1st Grade Bowling average.
  • Brayden Wallis        Most Dismissals by a wicketkeeper
  • Lachlan Brayley        Most Promising Bowler.
  • Mitchel Drennan        Most Promising Batsmen.

Redlands 1st Grade player and u/19 Australian team representative, Sam Heazlett, recently played against an England u/19 team in Perth W.A.. Sam did well scoring 160 runs in one of the games. Whilst he was away he missed the Qld Bulls Awards night where it was announced that he was the Queensland Youth Player of the Year. Sam is currently in the UK for some overseas experience with the Bexley Cricket Club and will be back in late July to train with the Qld Bulls side where he has been offered a rookie contract.
Another Redlands 1st Grade player, wicketkeeper James Peirson, also picked up two awards. He won the Brisbane Heat Best Team Man and the QAS player of the Year.
